Harvest 2021 : it's on !

Harvest 2021 : The starting signal is launched at Château Sainte Roseline

As the summer heat continues, harvest time has come for Château Sainte Roseline, Cru Classé in Les Arcs-sur-Argens.

The last few days, marked by regular maturity checks, reassured the teams to start harvesting the grapes on the night of Monday August 23 to Tuesday August 24 for a period of about a month.

Always looking for intensely pure pale colors for its Rosé and White wines and a subtle aromatic palette, Château Sainte Roseline favors night harvests, carried out as much as possible manually. The temperatures, which are naturally cooler than during the day, make it possible to better preserve the quality of the grapes and to exploit all the aromas of the fruit. Thus, the berries, less oxidized, will give a lighter color to the wine for a fine and elegant rendering faithful to the know-how of the estates.

A VERY ANTICIPATED 2021 VINTAGE

Despite rather capricious weather conditions with a rather hot month of February and an episode of frost in March, the teams were able to react quickly. In particular, they cut later with the objective of preventive control against winter weather.

According to the 1st analyses, the quantity will be there and the quality also promises to live up to our expectations with very good acidity in perspective and good potential.

« In the difficult health and economic context that we have been experiencing for many months, the start of the harvest seems like a relief, like the idea that against all odds, nature is perpetuating its journey. Nature, however this year, was not spared. And my thoughts go first of all to our colleagues hard hit by the devastating fires in the Var in recent days or who will be upset by the consequences of these fires.
Nature remains just as difficult, and its vagaries each year remind us how much more man must still do to protect it. This year again the frost marked areas in Provence, the spring was rainy and we had to redouble our energy to naturally fight against diseases. Provence has benefited from the only real summer in France, sun, heat, wind, pleasant nights, we are now moving towards a beautiful and good vintage. Long live the 2021 vintage ! »
says Eric Henry, General Manager of Château Sainte Roseline and Château des Demoiselles.

CSR, ALWAYS AT THE HEART OF OUR PHILOSOPHY

The social and environmental responsibility (CSR) of Château Sainte Roseline is particularly expressed within the vineyards.

Pioneers in this CSR approach, the two estates have been certified Vignerons Engagés since April 2021, a label issued by AFNOR. Committed to sustainable and reasoned viticulture, the 110 hectares of Sainte Roseline and the 75 hectares of Les Demoiselles were cultivated again this year, through agricultural practices that respect the environment, preserving our entire ecosystem : plowed vines and grassy headlands, enrichment of the soil via only noble and natural manures, stripping…

The first « Organic Agriculture » cuvées will see the light of day with the 2022 vintage, however this year will be the 2nd vintage in « organic conversion » respecting the « Organic Agriculture » specifications.

THE HARVEST, THE END OF A CYCLE

The harvest time represents the end of a year of hard work, it is the consecration of all the efforts made. This is the final step in the vineyards before it becomes cellar work.

They reward the efforts and care given to our vines throughout the year.

We wish the teams a great harvest and hope that the 2021 vintage will meet our very optimistic expectations...
